Question 4
I thought that the two most helpful mini lessons were the color wheel and magazine texture practice for color pencil. Before this class I had only used Prismacolor colored pencils once, and I didn't have any practice with them beforehand. I really didn't know how to properly use them. For the color wheel allowed me to practice creating various colors out of only primary colors (red, yellow, and blue). That was what we had to do for the self-portrait project. The other activity was to find various textures/materials and value changes from magazines and replicate them. This enabled me to practice various textures and recreate what I saw. Not only did these activities help me with the project they were for, but also for using color pencils in general.

Question 5
Almost everything Amaya did this semester was really good both in what a project was about and in general, however I think her painting in the style of a famous artist exemplified this the most. Her piece was in Paul Klee's style with a touch of her own style. I think this was really what the project was about. The subject she picked was relatively simple, but it fit with the artist's style. She figured out how to use her brush and the acrylic in a way that replicated Klee. I know she wasn't that fond of this piece and doesn't really consider painting to be one of her strengths, but I think it was executed well. Also, this painting could easily be presented with no context (nothing about what it depicts or that it's supposed to be in the style of an artist).

Question 6
My favorite medium to work with was color pencil. Like most everybody I've used regular color pencils for everyday type of things, and Art 1 I was able to use Prismacolor for the first time, however this class was the first time that I really got a chance to properly use color pencils in my art and learn not only basic techniques for using them, but also new ways to use them, such as only using primary colors, like in the portrait project to the left. My self-portrait wasn't that great as a portrait, however I was able to get a lot of practice layering and creating different values, and my favorite part of it is the color. It was also interesting to see how some of the independent study students sitting around me used Prismacolor; it made me excited about how much potential they have and what I could maybe do in the future with practice.

Question 7
I feel like my watercolor project was the least successful. While making it I put too much water, didn't do a good job planning out my layers, and rushed. My end product had splotches in the paper from where I didn't allow some of the layers to dry properly before adding on more and was really dull with little depth. There's really only about three distinct colors in this piece and they're all very flat. I'm not very experienced with watercolor in general, and poured watercolor was completely new to me, however this piece still could have been better. If I did this project again I would work slower and more carefully, and I would plan it out better, so as to create a wider range in color/value and add in the depth that would have made this so much better.
